My wife and kids bought a 128Mb version of this frame for me for a Father's Day gift. I was really excited about setting it up on my desk at work until I loaded a bunch of photos and realized the aspect ratio of the screen is different than the aspect ratio of my photos. The screen is around 16:9, whereas my photos are all 6:4. The result was that the photo frame either pushed the tops and bottoms of each photo off-screen, or else I was left with black bars on either side (depending on the picture size option you choose in the setup menu).

I was able to set up a custom cropping aspect ratio, then crop 287 photos in around 45 minutes. After cropping all the photos to fit the screen, they fill it up nicely and I'm happy with the product.

I dinged it one star for not making it clear the screen ratio isn't naturally compatible with the standard digital photo size ratio.

I spent 10 hours on this turkey and have not yet been able to get it to work. I downloaded jpegs from my camera and it said improper format. The manual said jpegs were the expected format but nothing about size of the jpeg or if there is any difference between jpegs. The pnone number they give is busy 100% of the time. The website has nothing to do with anything about the digital frame and just sends you to various resellers where you can buy the product. Even if you press the link for the latest manual you get resellers as a result.

This picture frame is awesome. The price is high as compared to other frames of similar size but the awesome picture quality justifies the cost.

The only aspect that I didn't like is the glass which is too reflective. If there are several light sources at home then it sometimes creates problem. But this is a minor issue.

I am big Sony fan, laptops, monitors, camera, TVs, etc. I just purchased a new laptop and flat screen TV this week.

I purchased two of these frames for the holidays and literally wasted my weekend trying to load them with pictures in an failed attempt to get it to work. I had read the reviews and thought I was buying a good device. The only problem is it turned out that the reviewers were not doing their job. Bottom line, if you do anything with your photos in other software programs good luck trying to get them to display in this Sony frame. On my cheap photo frames I have no problem displaying any image from my computer but not on this beautiful piece of junk.

I thought it was me and I did a lot of testing with lots of files, several computers, different photo software, and of course two of these Sony frames that I purchased and now have to return. Then I started reading things like this in the documentation: "A file...may not be displayed with the photo frame, even if it can be displayed with a computer...the image file may not be supported by the photo frame because, for example, it is a JPEG file that was created with your computer." I seldom read documentation by the way, but I was really frustrated and having not read anything so ridiculous in a long time I needed a good laugh. I mean it is almost 2010, many of us have been using software for decades, simple stuff should just work these days, and I needed to sit back and get perspective on the holidays. All of this mad rush to buy all of these holiday gadgets really isn't what it was suppose to be all about.

This is one of my favorite sentences: "Due to one of the characteristics of the device, images stored for a long time or read many times may be subject to data error when read too often." Can you imagine that! An image that is stored for a long time may be subject to data error when read too often!!! How much is a long time or read too often?

One of the last lines in the documentation is: "Even if you perform [Format internal memory], the data in the internal memory may not be erased completely. When you dispose of the photo frame, we recommend that you physically destroy the photo frame." Now there is a line for sustainability, 'built to last' and the environment. Maybe they are really trying to say, "Look, you are really going to get frustrated with this photo frame, so don't send it back, don't give it to someone you dislike, go ahead and just smash it with a big hammer. You will feel better."

If all you do is plug in your photo card, maybe you would be happy with this device. I guess there are people out there like that. I know my 88 year old mother would be one of them. Maybe that is Sony's market for this frame. At 88 my mother isn't likely to store an image too long or read it too often to cause any data error.

I got a few of these at 1/5th the list price, and even at that price it's a rip off. The animations are supposed to turn off, but what happens is the unit scrolls through 15 or 20 pictures, then it resets as if you unplugged the power, sits there for a while with a "Loading..." prompt, and plays displays your pictures with cartoon characters scrolling across the screen. There is no support or software updates for it from the manufacturers website either. Buyer beware.

This photo frame works fine. You have the option to scale the image to fit the frame or to display it in its native screen format i.e 4:3 or 16:9. I am not sure why other people dislike this frame. I purchased mine in April and everyone who has seen it has liked it. Perhaps it has updated firmware, but it is highly recommended.

I bought this for my mom as a gift. Fortunately I planned to set it up for her before I gave it to her - that gave me the chance to see that the quality of the frame was incredibly poor.

First off, getting the protective film off of the screen is an immense chore - the pull tab that's supposed to help get it off just pulls off, leaving the film in place. The film is quite thin and cut to match the edge of the screen exactly, so that you can't get your finger under there to lift it up. Bad first impression. This was so frustrating that I talked to customer support about it, and they acknowledged that it was a problem they'd been having and offered to remove the film for me if I sent it in to them. After seeing the quality of the frame and screen, I decided to return the unit for a refund, instead.

The frame purports to play .avi files. I suppose technically it does, but quite badly. When I started an .avi file, it played in very slow motion, then paused, at which time the sound to that point played. Then the video started again (in very slow motion again), then paused while the sound again caught up. This continued until I cussed loudly and turned the thing off.

The display of the pictures was barely serviceable. The contrast simply wasn't very good. You could adjust the brightness quite a bit in order to see the pictures, but then the pictures looked washed out.

All in all, a complete waste of money. I'm returning this one and looking for something of immensely better quality.

I've been using the Cagic 8 digital frame for more than a month now. Having used others (Philips, Kodak, Pandigital among them) I was a bit jaded, and perhaps my expectations were low for all digital frames.

Cagic cured that. Let's start with the basics: it works - perfectly. No bells and whistles, no complicated menus. You turn it on, it shows your pictures, period. Go to the next one? Just touch the matting on the right. Previous? Touch on the left. Loading pictures? Just stick your memory card in and it pulls all the pictures in, scales them for the frame and tells you to take the card out. That's it. Could not be easier.

In terms of styling, there's nothing that holds a candle to it... how could there be? They use solid brushed aluminum and a 2 inch thick natural wood frame. The frame is so solid it is almost confusing at first... it looks and feels like a nice piece of furniture, not a digital frame. No plastic, no ugly doors or things sticking out... just a metal dome on the back with a support and a beautiful wood frame on the front. Quite literally everything else out on the market is some mix of plastic and acrylic... Cagic went the other way.

The bad: not much. It doesn't do audio and doesn't play video. If you want to use your digital frame to watch TV or listen to music, this won't work. If you're like 99% of the other people who just want it to display pictures, this is the one. Also, no WiFi. I'm mixed on that. What I've seen of WiFi on frames is so confusing and laden with layers, that I'd love for it to be easy. It appears Cagic just opted out of WiFi for now (though an e-mail to customer service got a quick response stating "don't be surprised to see an upgrade in the near future" for WiFi when I suggested it).

In short, if you want something that looks nice and just works, with no thought involved, this is it. I ordered a 2nd one for my office after using this one for a while.

Good product but... - Ratboy - Camden, AR USA
Easy to use, good picture, but there are a few flaws.

First, there is no external power source. It runs off of an internal USB rechargeable battery that only last 2 hours. However, I've managed to get around that by keeping it plugged into a USB port on my computer all the time. Not a big deal if you have an available USB port.

Second, you can't add pictures directly to the frame's SD card simply by plugging in the frame to your USB port. Again, not a big deal for me since I have an SD slot on my computer, but I still would have liked to have had that option.

Third, and this is the major issue for me, the frame is not gray as it appears in the picture, it is a very shiny mirror. So reflective, it actually makes viewing difficult unless you hold it at just the right angle.

Wouldn't buy it again if it were free. - L. Mahler -
This is the absolute worst product I have ever had to deal with. It seems like it should be simple - plug the necessary cords or memory cards in and load the photos - but nothing works. It won't load photos from a PC so I used my own card reader to get photos onto the card. Now, it won't detect the card.

After five minutes of trying to get it to work, the screen backlight broke or just stopped turning on.

The remote is very cheap and doesn't come with the small lithium battery.

My cell phone has better resolution. I don't know how they can get away with listing "Hi-Definition LCD display" on the box.

If you badly need something to do, buy this item. It will keep you running errands for batteries or memory cards and cost you another trip back to the store to deal with the customer service reps when you return it.

For Christmas, we had purchased the HP Smart WiFi digital frame for my parents. It was a NIGHTMARE to set up, took literally hours to establish the connection with the wireless router and then would lose it frequently. We took it back and ordered this Toshiba frame.

In contrast. the Toshiba frame was a dream to set up the connection and establish what you want to show via FrameChannel. My parents aren't very technical so I set it up and then mailed it to them. I was able to quickly and easily talk my mom through setting it up at her house via the phone. She is DELIGHTED with the frame and loves the fact that when we e-mail new photos to her, they show up immediately. Another great feature is that when new photos are sent to it/uploaded on facebook, it gives those preferential treatment in the shuffle, showing those more frequently for the first 48 hours. Terrific idea!

We give this two thumbs up and will likely be ordering another one for my ILs.

At first, this is a sleek looking product. I have a few of these frames from other brands and no other has the high end cosmetics as the Toshiba model.
The WiFi features are really cool. Setting up to your home network is a snap.
This can be marketed as the photo frame for "facebook" as you can link all of your friends facebook photos to your account and wirelessly they will appear on your frame. Cool!
Once you set up a free account with Frame Channel, selecting all of your content providers is the fun part.

I bought this picture frame as a Christmas gift. The product is well put together and has a great picture. I hooked it to Framechannel picture sharing site. Setting this up to work can be a little frustrating if you try and use the instructions only. All features now work on ours but it took a good bit of fiddling to get it right. Using Framechannel was the final piece to the puzzle. Great picture, 15" shows well. Recommend this product but have patience when setting up.

It simply doesn't work. - Shelby Hill - Morgantown, WV
So I bought this in spite of the reviews that said they had problems with getting this thing to work on their network. I figure odds were that it was just a little difficult to work with; however, I'm an IT professional. I have an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.

Here is the problem. This is just a poor product. I believe the main problem is the antenna in the system is simply non existent.

The first frame that showed up to my house would not even find my home network. I tried for a couple days thinking I was missing something and finally returned it as defective. The second frame showed up and could find my network.

Here is where the knock on Ease of Use comes in. I run a WPA encrypted network as I'm assuming most folks do at this point. But this thing makes it murder to type in the key by not taking a passphrase. In addition it doesn't really say what it will take. I mean the alternative to passphrase is the entire key BUT that key can be typed in a couple of ways either in hex or in asci. The problem with ASCI is that if you are using a preexisting passphrase there is no requirement that the ASCI conversion of that be printable characters. They can resolve to linefeeds and tabs and such. The screen you use to type this information in contains the entire alphabet lower and uppercase. I tried simply typing in the hex but that did not work.(Not to mention the phrase is 64 char long.) If they wanted the hex they sure should have only included the numbers and letters you need to type it in. It should would have been a lot easier. Also a way to store that value even if it's wrong so you could go back and edit it would have been great.

So I gave up on WPA. I tried WEP. Same problem. I never got any security to work. I removed all security and finally got the frame on the network. Next I tried to connect it to a flickr page. It connected fine. So I added a second. Failure again. I checked what I typed in and it was correct. So I removed that one and added a different one. That one worked. After playing with it for a couple of days the very first page would no longer work. I was stumped. After a bit more trial and error I go back to the detect network and look and the frame was still able to see my now unsecured network but it only had 2 bars of signal. I found this odd. I mean the frame was a mere 8 feet from the AP. I moved about the room testing. I figure out that the signal was SO weak that if I moved my seat even a small amount it would lose connection. This was what was causing the erratic behavior of seeing or not seeing flickr feeds.

So as a wireless product it's an utter failure.

Now for my other ratings. I thought the frame looked really nice. It has a removable outer frame so you can change up the look although I could not find anywhere that sold replacements for it. I rated the ease of use very low because I could not get it connected to a secure network although I suspect this was due to the poor wireless abilities. It has a ton of great features. If you want a very large frame and just want to use it with a USB/flash I think it would do an excellent job. The picture quality was extremely good. It was large and looked nice; however, there didn't appear to be any picture controls. The problem was both frames were a little blown out in dark rooms. It would have been nice to be able to decrease the brightness a bit. I have no idea what portability means in this situation but I'm going to assume it's how well you can move it from room to room and with the wireless ability nonexistent I'm going to rate it the lowest possible.

Finally customer support. Yes I didn't go it alone but I might as well have. I tried contacting the by phone and email. Via phone I was never able to get in touch with anyone. Via email I had a couple of completely useless replies...

Here is one of my emails...
"I finally managed to get the frame connected to the network if I turn off all encryption including WEP. But this is no way to run permanently. Can you give me some kind of suggestion as to what I could be doing wrong? Your manual is kind of vague it simply says security key. Does that mean it wants the hex key? It says it can't use the passphrase. But if it only wanted the hex key why did you include all the rest of the letters and symbols? I really need some help here or else I'll have to send the product back.

Those are the complete emails by the way minus the support persons signature. I don't find it useful to punish individuals as I believe this is systemic to the entire company.

Hope that helps others to avoid a little pain. As a plain old digital frame I still think this product is rather nice. But it's being sold as a wireless frame which I feel it's not.

To be honest, I didn't know what to expect for this price, but I was knocked off my feet. Everything about this product is awesome! Again, I hate to keep bringing this up but "FOR THE PRICE!!"... you can't go wrong. I'm going to see if more are available to give as a Christmas gift this year. Oh, I forgot to mention, I put a 1GB card into this digital frame and have a total of 320 pics which transition with music in the background. Recommend highly!

This was given to me as a gift. The first one didn't work at all, so I took it back and had it replaced. The second one rarely works, and it freezes in the middle of the show for no reason. After reloading images (small enough for email), the frame won't display them at all. Resolution is poor, and I feel bad for the gift-giver. A complete waste of money and time.

I bought this for on Black Friday. I got what I paid for... I could get it to show the 10 preloaded pictures but I could not even get it to recognize a 128 thumb drive with pictures. I wanted something simple for my 60 year old parents and this was not it. There also was a pixel not working. I called the 3 times for help. No way would I have it in time for Christmas so I drove 50 miles to the "local" store.
I bought a Kodak 820. I plugged it in, turned it on and attached my 8 gig thumb drive and it started showing my pictures. Just want I wanted.

I thought the size might be too small as mine is a 10" but my dad LOVES it! The problem is, you can't randomize the slide show.

I received this frame for Christmas. I was pleased with the ease of use in downloading photos to the frame, the picture quality was amazing as well-for the 1st 2 days! The images began to get brighter and brighter on my frame, each passing day. I made sure to only leave the frame on during the day and turned the frame off when retiring to bed. By the 4th day of having the frame the frame showed NO IMAGES, only a totally white screen. After troubleshooting the frame for quite a while I contacted Kodak who informed me that I would have to pay for shipping and also pay for the frame to be repaired since I did not have a receipt. I explained I received this as a Christmas gift but they did not care-explaining this is their policy. So basically they make a bad product and I have to pay for the repairs? I don't think so! Take my advice, buy another frame-this one has a great picture, unfortunately it doesn't last long! If you are buying this gift for someone beware. Do your friends, family, and yourself a favor-don't buy the frame and save yourself and others a lot of headache!

What Kodak should have provided was a software program that could be used to easily crop and size your photos to fit the 800x480 size.
The frame did not even acknowledge when I plugged in a KODAK compactflash! What pooty-doo!

This 10 inch Mustek digital frame is almost perfect for what I wanted. The only problem is it stops every now and then (I have 2 and they both do it). I am thinking maybe it is my electrical system and I need a surge protector. It is very random. Otherwise, I load the pics (about 1500 of them) and music onto a USB drive from my computer, then plug it in to the frame, turn it on, press "right" button twice to get to "photo and music" on the menu, and press the select button and away it goes, cycling over and over through the pics and music. The picture quality is perfect. I did have to lessen the size of my professional jpg's from a photographer (9-10 meg each down to 1 meg) or else I couldn't do the 5 second slide show because the pics took longer to load than that (it warns of this in the directions). The 15 second slide show still worked good. If I use any photos I took with my 5 Megapixel Sony camera or my cybershot it works fine with 5 second slide show. The pics that are 1 Meg down to 600 KB look great. The pictures seem to be displayed in the order they were copied to the USB drive (this was tricky to figure out - I wanted them displayed in a certain order), or in random order if you choose that option. I really like this frame.

The review stating there is a random picture loading feature is incorrect. There is only random picture-to-picture transition type.

I played with the thing for quite a while, read the sparse instructions carefully, and then called Mustek to verify that there is no random picture loading mode. Pictures load in a particular order... not sure if this is alphabetical or in the order in which the file was copied, but regardless there's no way to switch to random.

For a digital frame that supports memory cards in the multiple GB range which adds up to thousands of pictures, having random picture loading is an essential feature. I would not recommend this product based on this feature being missing.

The Impecca is "impeccable" as they state and it's true! This frame is so easy to use, insert your media stick, turn on the switch and VOILA...you have an instant slide show. Unlike other brands that ask you to select the media, i.e. slides or movies, etc. then make you walk through 3 more steps BEFORE the slide show starts, this Impecca "starts instantly"! My only slight issue with it...is that sometimes it won't "start" with the remote control...thus necessatating lifting up the frame and turning "off" the switch...and then turning it back "on"...a minor annoyance! Also I wish they had put the switch on the side...rather than the bottom.

Don't waste your time with other digital frames...go for this one! Very user friendly! Also I purchased the 15" screen size...smaller screens just don't have the "punch" and "effect" like this frame does...so go for the 15" screen! Bright, sharp, clear and the random transitions for slides is a plus!
